Rustic Romantic Wedding at Captains Wood Barn, Maldon, Essex | Grace Elizabeth | Alternative Wedding Photographer, Colchester, Essex
When I found out about the beautiful new venue of Captains Wood Barn, situated in the Maldon countryside, I just knew I HAD to photograph there. As it was winter going into spring (obviously the best time to organise a shoot - not!), weddings were not in full swing, so I, along with my florist friend Kelly of Miss Fleur Floral Design, decided to put together our very own boho, romantic wedding... With a twist... We only used carnations for the entire shoot, and we had 800 of them to be precise!
Kelly was super fortunate in that she was kindly donated over 800 beautiful carnation stems from Benchmark Growers, who allowed her to do as she pleased. She made so many stunning floral arrangements that it brought the entire wedding to life, and looked so beautifully-romantic.
Along with a dreamy Suzanne Neville lace and chiffon dress and suits from Peter Posh, both hired from Lily Christina Bridal Collection and modelled by my friends (and a real couple!) Fiona and Josh, the bridal couple looked perfect. Fiona did her own makeup as she is also a freelance make up artist in Essex, and her hair was styled by the lovely Ruby Onslow, whilst J.K Gems provided some of the most stunning antique jewellery pieces I have ever seen, too. Fiona looked beautiful with everything combined!
The decor was equally gorgeous. Gemma Jane Design did the most wonderful job of decorating the venue with crockery and handwritten signage, including a calligraphy mirrored sign, table plan, and individual invitations, whilst Anthology Vintage Hire provided a lovely selection of reclaimed and vintage furniture and decor to use, which worked so beautifully with our cake from My Fair Cakery.
Overall, the wedding we created was simply stunning, and, despite intermittent rain storms, we were able to really bring this wedding to life. I can only imagine what my lovely couples could do with Captains Wood Barn, as it's a fantastic location for a wedding!
