Sunny Town Elopement at Colchester Castle, Colchester | Rhian and Ali | Grace Elizabeth, Colchester, Essex Alternative Wedding And Lifestyle Photographer

When an email from Rhian and Ali popped into my inbox just two months before they planned to hold their wedding, I knew from the first line of their email that they sounded pretty ace. ‘We've known each other for 8 years, been together for 4 years and engaged for 3 years. We got bored after Christmas and randomly decided to just book our wedding for April.’ I knew they sounded like my kind of people. I love that they were ‘bored’ enough to plan a wedding - how chill do they sound?!

After a phone call, they decided to book me, and then we met up for a drink (as you’ll know is pretty usual, if you’re a regular blog reader!) We got on super well and I was so excited to find out more about their wedding day at Colchester Castle. They just wanted something low key and relaxed, I think I remember Rhian saying something like ‘We don’t want hundreds and hundreds of photos of the same thing, we just want a document of the day, some family photos and a few of us together!’ so, with that in mind, that’s exactly what I did!

I arrived a little before the ceremony to get some photos of Rhian getting ready at Greyfriars (and slightly obsessed over the beautiful light in their go-to bridal suite) and then walked over to the ceremony with her. She was so chilled out, I remember her saying how relaxed she was and that it was kind of surreal that this was their wedding day. Once arrived, I was met by an incredibly calm and collected husband-to-be, Ali, who spent the entirety of the ceremony just grinning from ear to ear as you’ll see!

After a super short ceremony, we took a few photos in the Castle, then outside with family, and then I stole them away for 20 minutes before they headed off for a celebratory dinner. Yes, all of these couple photos (there were lots more, too!) were shot in 20 minutes. You can find out how I make the magic happen here!

Without further ado, here are the photos from their beautifully intimate wedding. Hopefully you might see them here again in a year or so’s time when they’ve planned their big French Provence destination wedding!

Thank you Rhian and Ali, for having me document your wedding day! As always too, if you’d like to get the latest news and special offers, you can join my newsletter here!

Love always,

Grace xo
