A Barn Wedding with a Theme Park Twist | Grace and Sam | Old Barn and The Milky Way, Clovelly | Grace Elizabeth, Essex, Devon, Suffolk and Norfolk Alternative Wedding Photographer
When an email popped into my inbox from another Grace Elizabeth, I thought I had misread it… But nope, another Grace Elizabeth really was enquiring with me, and she wanted to book me because we had the same name. How cool is that?!
If her name hadn’t already been the reason I wanted to work with her, then the couple’s plans to get married at the Old Barn in Clovelly, Bideford in North Devon, which is literally joined to a theme park, the Milky Way, with dodgems you can ACTUALLY use, then I don’t know what was!
A few weeks after Grace and Sam’s initially enquiry, it actually tied in with my plans to go down to Devon for the week, so we decided to meet up at a little seaside café for a natter. I always think it’s so important getting to know my couples, so this was the perfect way to do so. Well, we need not have worried, because we got on like clockwork right away!
As many of you will know, I spent my teenage years growing up in Devon, I have lots of wonderful friends there, and it’s where my boyfriend of seven years and I met, so it absolutely holds such a special place in my heart. Being able to go back to photograph a wedding there was just such a dream!
On the day itself, having chatted to Grace over a hot chocolate at Caffé Nero a few weeks before the wedding (which turned into an almost three hour catch up rather than a client meeting - which was so lovely!), I arrived and was welcomed into the arms of all of the ladies there, so much so that it felt like I was a friend! Most of the day went along the lines of: ‘Oh by the way, this is Grace, she’s photographing today!’ Grace would say this to everyone, as if introducing an old friend. It was fab!
The day was so meticulously and perfectly organised that it ran like clockwork! From photographing both of them getting ready (and Grace being the calmer one of the two!), to a beautifully intimate pastel-toned conservatory ceremony, to a windy set of couple and family photos (the April weather was not on our side!), and finally the most chilled, fun reception… this day was just incredible! We even got to go on the dogems after the meal, which made for some absolutely awesome photos (thank you also to the park worker who drove around in circles so that I could get the photo I needed!)
I cannot express my gratitude to Grace and her family for being so wonderful and trusting all day! The couple already have plans to book me back in, which is absolutely wonderful. I have always wanted to create images for the most important times in people’s lives, right from their engagement, to their wedding, and beyond. More often, this leads to them becoming friends, and these two are no exception to the rule.
Thank you so much, Grace, Sam and your wonderful families, for being so incredible. From one Grace to another, you rock!!
