Behind the Scenes | We Only Need 15 Minutes For Your Wedding Portraits - Yes Really! | Grace Elizabeth, Colchester, Essex Alternative Wedding and Lifestyle Photographer

I wanted to take a chance to write a blog post to help answer a question I hear a lot from my wedding couples: ‘How long do you need for our couple photos?’ Whether you’ve already booked me for your wedding or are looking to find out a bit more about the way that I shoot, I thought this might be useful…

Regularly, when I explain that I will need a little time in your day to get those beautiful couple photos you see across my website and my instagram, I often hear ‘Oh you won’t take us away for hours will you?’ or ‘We aren’t that fussed about couple photos… We were at a wedding recently where the couple disappeared with the videographer and photographer for two hours! We don’t want that.’ Therefore, most couples are actually super cautious about having any couple photos together at all, which makes me super sad because I LOVE them!

What if I told you something pretty cool?

What if I told you, that almost all of the photos you see across my website and instagram are taken in 20 minutes or so? No, really, they are!

I totally understand how important your wedding day is, and the idea of taking you away from your guests for hours on end gives me shivers! A wedding day is about celebrating with your guests, not having a full blown photo shoot (that’s what your pre-wedding session is for!), so I try to ask for as little as 20 minutes for your photos together. I often even do them across two sessions, one post-ceremony, and one later in the day when the sun begins to set. The most time I have ever used was 45 minutes, and that was because the couple offered to set aside more time than usual to explore their beautiful location in Norfolk. (You can read more about their wedding here - it was gorgeous!)

So, with the help of some footage from the lovely Colchester based videographer Lewis Adger, who I worked with at a recent wedding, I thought I would share a behind the scenes of just a few of the photos I managed to document during Joe and Tiffany’s wedding last summer. All of these photographs were taken outside a village hall with around 15 minutes, in a race before the sun set!

Thank you so much Lewis for letting me use some of the footage, and I hope this is of help!

Much love as ever!
