Chara and Neil's Pre Wedding Session At Home With Cats and At Coalhouse Fort, Tilbury | Grace Elizabeth, Colchester, Essex Alternative Wedding And Lifestyle Photographer

When Chara and Neil booked me back in February, it wasn’t long before I realised via instagram that the couple were self-acclaimed crazy cat parents. Their eldest cat, a Silver Spotted British Shorthair called Albus Dumblepaw (yes, really, he even has his own instagram account!) was the centre of their world, so naturally it wasn’t long before I had to follow his account to see his escapades! But they decided that one cat wasn’t enough, so just a few weeks ago, they introduced little Delilah, a Blue British Shorthair kitten into their home! Do you remember the McVities biscuit adverts where the grey fluffy kittens crawl out of the biscuit packet? Well, Delilah is actually related to those cats!

When I then mentioned booking in with them for their pre wedding session, there was only one natural response: an at-home session with their two cats! However, we really didn’t realise what we had let ourselves in for, as the kitties did their best to avoid me taking their photos…

After an hour of coaxing, persuading and eventually deciding defeat, we crammed into my little car and decided to head down to a fort that Chara and Neil just happened to casually mention was a five minute drive from their house. Coalhouse Fort as I found it to be called, was was built in the 1860s to guard the lower Thames from a seaborne attack, but it was decommissioned in 1949. It has slowly been becoming more derelict over the years, but since 1985 a voluntary preservation group, the Coalhouse Fort Project, has been working to restore the fort and use it for heritage and educational purposes. On the day that we visited, it was shut, but we were able to have a little stroll around it, and and took some lovely windswept couple photos, which were super relaxed!

So, here is a mix of what we got up to, from photos with less-than-impressed cats to photos by a windswept fort!

Now we can just count down the days to their October wedding, eek!
