Cherry Creek Colorado Family Session | Hunt Family | Grace Elizabeth, Colchester, Essex Alternative Wedding and Lifestyle Photographer

‘A family session in Colorado?!’ you’re thinking. ‘But you’re from the UK!’ you’re thinking. Well yes, you’d be correct! You can imagine how excited I was not just to visit a state I’ve always wanted to go to, but to also be able to photograph one of my friend’s oldest friends, Maritta, and her beautiful family down at Cherry Creek in Colorado!

The whole reason I flew out to Colorado was because I was invited by my friend George to photograph such a monumental event, that being his father’s burial with full military honours at the US Air Force Academy. I’ve written a whole blog post about that because it was the most incredible experience and something I will always hold in my heart as one of the pinnacles of my career; not for the travel aspect, but because I got to be a part of something that was so important to someone else.

George had picked my mum and I up from Denver airport on the Friday, and the following day we were able to meet up with one of his oldest friends, Maritta, who is just the loveliest person and someone he has stayed in touch with since the two met at University. Maritta and I had in fact connected over Facebook a few years prior when George first introduced us, but I never anticipated being able to meet her and her super lovely family so soon! It was so wonderful when she and husband Bradley invited my mum and I into their home with open arms, and gave me a few hours of their time for a family session on the Saturday morning.

We headed down to the gorgeous Cherry Creek, a reserve with a backdrop like nothing I had ever seen before. It was just stunning. It was a frosty day and snow still gathered in patches on the ground, but that didn’t stop everyone donning their best clothes and most importantly, a beaming smile. I loved getting to know them all and particularly the kids. Bryce Amelia was such a diva and loved my accent ‘Are you from England?’ she would say to me. ‘I love your accent!’ Whilst her brother Braxton told me all about his love for NASA and space, and his twin sister Brighley who is generally non verbal, even came up and gave me a huge hug! They are just the sweetest. I said it on the day and I will say it again, so rarely do I see a family where the kids have a bond like these three do (and little fluffy Adipose the dog too - who I couldn’t believe was an age in double figures!)

Thank you ever so much to you all, the Hunt family, for letting me come and meet you and take your photos. I so hope I can come back again soon!
