Karen And Tony's DIY Rustic Wedding At Blackthorpe Barn, Suffolk | Grace Elizabeth, Colchester Essex Alternative Wedding and Lifestyle Photographer

Karen and Tony wed yesterday in what was one of the windiest wedding days I think I have EVER photographed! Hair was flying everywhere, guests were almost being blown into the next county, and I almost lost my footing more times than I care to have counted… but it didn’t stop them, and they had the most fantastic wedding day at Blackthorpe Barn in Suffolk!

The day began at Karen’s bridal prep in the beautiful rooms upstairs at Blackthorpe House, just next door. My goodness, it was a photographers dream!! White and cream walls, so many textures and patterns, and just the best light for photos. It actually made my little photographer heart cry a bit with happiness when I walked in!

After what felt like ages getting ready, all of a sudden we had about ten minutes to go, so Karen’s bridesmaids did their best to get her into her dress as soon as possible. After a spritz of perfume, a double check that her shoes were laced up (we all needed sturdy shoes yesterday!!) and her pup Roxy ready to go with her bridal collar, lead and flower corsage (yes, their dog was effectively maid of honour!), the girls flew out of the door to the ceremony.

I meanwhile arrived at their ceremony in the barn to find a rather nervous Tony and his groomsmen, and 70 of their nearest and dearest excitedly waiting for Karen’s arrival. On a table beside the top of the aisle, adjacent to framed family photographs, candles were lit for those who sadly could not be there, but were there in spirit, which I thought was a beautiful touch. A special mention goes to Tony’s parents, who, before they passed away, wrote a card titled ‘On your wedding day’; the contents of which genuinely had everyone, including me in tears during the speeches. I know that they were looking down on you both today with so much love and happiness.

The day itself was just beautiful, and the couple spent every second smiling from ear to ear, which says a lot about how much this day meant to them.

So, Karen and Tony, thank you so very much for having me be a part of your beautiful day, and I hope this will be not the start, but the continuation of a very happy life together!
