How to hold a laid-back modern Buddhist wedding at Firstsite, Colchester | Georgie and Amalaketu | Grace Elizabeth, Alternative Wedding Photographer, Colchester, Essex
When Georgie and Amalaketu got in contact with me about shooting their laid back, Buddhist wedding, we met up (as I always do!) and chatted over some vegan food and drinks in my favourite little nook - Sip and Tuck. An hour or so later, they invited me to have a look around their trendy, modern wedding venue: Firstsite, an art gallery in the centre of Colchester - and as it turned out, the planets had aligned...
How and why? Well, it was quite ironic, how their wedding came about actually - I'm not even sure if Georgie and Amalaketu know this! But, they had told me that they were to be the first people to wed at the venue, after their friend Eddie, who works at Firstsite, had encouraged them to hold their wedding there. Firstsite is a wonderful exhibition space, holds many quirky exhibitions from local and worldwide artists, and is just the perfect canvas to work with. After Georgie and Amalaketu decided to book with me, I had a chat about my newly booked wedding (and how lovely my afternoon was with the couple!) with my other half, who did his internship at Firstsite in the winter. He was so confused, because as it so turned out, Eddie, their friend, was one of the guys he worked with there and he had heard that there was going to be a wedding there in the summer - and that was Georgie and Amalaketu's wedding! It was so strange how the two things joined up and even funnier that my other half Jack knew about it before me! What a small world.
Anyway, fast forward to the day itself, and it was so beautiful. Georgie looked absolutely beautiful, with her etherial boho up-do, flowers from Jo Finan of Interior Floral Design, lace crochet Zetterberg wedding dress from Still White (a fab place to get a dress if you're looking for one second hand!), and her natural makeup by the lovely, and vegan MUA, Maisy Resier. Amalaketu opted for a suit from Fenwick Colchester and vegan shoes (who knew?!) from Will's Vegan Shoes. The pair got ready at Greyfriars Hotel in the town centre, and walked to the venue, Firstsite, which had been set up wonderfully by friends and family - Georgie told me how much this de-stressed everything for her, as they did such a fab job! Everything at Firstsite was co-ordinated by Colchester Events Company, who did an amazing job pulling off the first wedding there! Sadly I didn't get a chance to see the beautiful cakes that Wildflour Vegan Kitchen had made, or get any photos of the kids playing with the awesome outdoor toys from Colchester Toy Library, but I think both deserve a mention! The focus of their wedding was truly on love, meditation and on enjoying their wedding with family and friends from across the globe.
I am so grateful to have been their photographer and to have met them both. Thank you ever so much Georgie and Ketu!
