A DIY Boho Barn Wedding at the Essex Barn, White Hart, Great Yeldham | Sarah and Paul | Grace Elizabeth, Colchester, Essex Alternative Wedding and Lifestyle Photographer
Right, so where do you start at explaining how beautiful, amazing, wonderful and fantastic a wedding and the bride and groom were when there are only so many adjectives in the dictionary?!
Sarah and Paul’s wedding at the bohemian barn at the White Hart, Great Yeldham, was just absolutely stunning from start to finish, and such a pleasure to be a part of.
The couple (who were quite literally lovesick teenagers!) booked me last year and I knew we would get along well when I turned up at their house for the initial meeting, only to have to wade my way through two excitable dogs and their puppies. Many an apology was made from Sarah and Paul, but the reality was, this would be exactly the same scenario if a prospective couple came to my house, so I knew they were my kind of people from the outset!
The day began with Sarah and her bridesmaids getting ready in one of the hotel rooms at the White Hart, which had the most fabulous beams and was just so old and beautiful. Sarah was just finishing off hair and makeup when I arrived (despite me being early, I think the girls had been up from 6am!), whilst her children were excitedly singing the Shark Song (I am sure you know the one, I’ll spare you the song!) and skipping around in their bridesmaids dresses.
Before Sarah got into her beautiful ballgown, I headed across the way to meet Paul, with his son, who were calmly getting ready. It always does make me laugh how different the vibes can be between the bride and groom, as these two were as chilled as two cucumbers (although I did spot him getting a bit emotional at the ceremony!)
The wedding ceremony itself was quiet and peaceful, with Sarah’s wonderful mum giving her away, having lost her dad earlier in the year. It was held on the mezzanine of the White Hart’s Great Barn, which overlooked the fantastic reception, that Sarah had decorated entirely herself. I am continually amazed at the talent my couples possess and always love the very personal touches they add.
After many a congratulatory hug, confetti was thrown, a few family portraits were taken and I borrowed the newlyweds for some couple photos before it rained. We dodged the rain on and off all day, but when that sunset finally did peek through after the (very emotional) speeches, it was just glorious. You can never beat after rain sunsets!
The day was just totally beautiful, and I am so grateful to have walked away with Sarah as a really wonderful friend at the end of it. She also is a huge ambassador for mental health, and runs a very informative, supportive instagram account with her friend Ed. I love how I can meet so many wonderful, likeminded couples through shooting their weddings, who pretty much always become friends.
Thank you, Sarah and Paul, for having me as your wedding photographer. I wish you endless happiness!
