Natalie and John's Intimate Houchins Wedding Previews | Grace Elizabeth, Colchester, Essex, Devon, Suffolk And Norfolk Alternative Wedding And Family Photographer

As if one set of wedding previews wasn’t enough for one evening, I’m about to hit you with another! This weekend I had a double header of beautiful weddings, first being Natalie and John’s wedding at Houchins on Saturday, followed by Chara and Neil’s rain-filled wedding at Gosfield Hall on Sunday, which you will have just seen!

Natalie and John, Saturday’s couple, are effectively friends by now. They booked me around two years ago, when I was still working part time and only had the dream of going full time as a photographer! Well, it’s amazing what two years can do, because now reality is better than the dream and I am so grateful for their support throughout!

Philippa and Mark's Decadent Autumnal Gatsby Wedding Previews at Holmewood Hall | Grace Elizabeth, Colchester, Essex, Devon, Suffolk And Norfolk Alternative Wedding And Family Photographer

I feel like I begin every wedding previews blog post like this… but how do I begin to even explain how beautiful this wedding was?!

Yesterday I headed to the beautiful Holmewood Hall for the very first time. It’s a stunningly decadent venue owned by the same people as Gosfield Hall, which is one of my favourite local venues, and just a stones throw from my house! Well, in the spirit of the beautiful Gosfield Hall, Holmewood Hall was just as gorgeous, with not a single detail forgotten. It was like walking into a home from Downton Abbey, and the couple absolutely complimented it to a T as well!

Meg and Laurie's Intimate Boho Vintage Garden Wedding, Brentwood, Essex | Grace Elizabeth, Colchester, Essex, Devon, Suffolk And Norfolk Alternative Wedding And Family Photographer

Where do I even begin with yesterday’s wedding?!

Meg and Laurie wed in a beautifully intimate back garden ceremony yesterday, under a marquee lit with fairy lights and surrounded by their nearest and dearest, many of whom had travelled miles to witness their marriage.

In the few months I have known Meg and Laurie, I have really come to see them as friends. They made me feel so incredibly included and welcome at their wedding, as that is a testament to them as people. They really are the epitome of what it means to love and be loved, and they reinstated to me that love really is at the core of everything we do as humans.

Chara and Neil's Pre Wedding Session At Home With Cats and At Coalhouse Fort, Tilbury | Grace Elizabeth, Colchester, Essex Alternative Wedding And Lifestyle Photographer

When Chara and Neil booked me back in February, it wasn’t long before I realised via instagram that the couple were self-acclaimed crazy cat parents. Their eldest cat, a Silver Spotted British Shorthair called Albus Dumblepaw (yes, really, he even has his own instagram account!) was the centre of their world, so naturally it wasn’t long before I had to follow his account to see his escapades! But they decided that one cat wasn’t enough, so just a few weeks ago, they introduced little Delilah, a Blue British Shorthair kitten into their home! Do you remember the McVities biscuit adverts where the grey fluffy kittens crawl out of the biscuit packet? Well, Delilah is actually related to those cats!

Philippa and Mark's Brighton Beach Pre Wedding Session | Grace Elizabeth, Colchester, Essex Alternative Wedding and Lifestyle Photographer

Philippa and Mark are just the sweetest couple! They enquired super excitedly a few months ago about booking their wedding coverage with me. When I mentioned the idea of them having a pre wedding session, they jumped at the chance, and already had the perfect location to hand: Brighton; where they met at university and got engaged!

Tess and Adam's Intimate Colchester Town Wedding Previews | Grace Elizabeth | Colchester, Essex Alternative Wedding and Lifestyle Photographer

When an enquiry flew into my inbox last week about a wedding happening this week, I couldn’t quite believe my eyes. ‘A wedding, next week?!’ I thought. ‘Is that right?! This must be the most short notice enquiry I’ve ever received!’ But no, it was correct, Tess and Adam really were getting married in a week’s time!

Joan, Tess’ mum, had enquired about finding a photographer for her daughter and son-in-law’s intimate wedding and it seemed to be fate that her enquiry landed in my inbox of all of the Essex based photographers, since she even has a grand daughter called Grace Elizabeth!

Mel and Rocky's Intimate Forest Wedding Previews | Narborough Hall Gardens, Norfolk | Grace Elizabeth, Colchester, Essex Alternative Wedding and Lifestyle Photographer

I remember Mel’s initial enquiry with me so vividly. I was sat at the day job on a break when her email popped up on my laptop. I was on the cusp of quitting my day job to go full time with photography, and Mel’s enquiry was one of the very first ones I had received before I went fully fledged. It was the push I needed to say ‘YES!’ to my dreams and to go for it. Safe to say, this last year has been the most incredible whirlwind and there’s no stopping!

Laughter-Filled Couple Session | Cudmore Grove Beach, Mersea | Katrina and Jim | Grace Elizabeth, Colchester, Essex Alternative Wedding And Lifestyle Photographer

I am not quite sure you’ll ever find another couple who laugh their way through their couple session quite as much as Katrina and Jim did here. These two were so much fun that even my cheeks hurt from smiling and laughing so much when we finished their photos and got back to the car park.

Sunny Town Elopement at Colchester Castle, Colchester | Rhian and Ali | Grace Elizabeth, Colchester, Essex Alternative Wedding And Lifestyle Photographer

When an email from Rhian and Ali popped into my inbox just two months before they planned to hold their wedding, I knew from the first line of their email that they sounded pretty ace. ‘We've known each other for 8 years, been together for 4 years and engaged for 3 years. We got bored after Christmas and randomly decided to just book our wedding for April.’ I knew they sounded like my kind of people. I love that they were ‘bored’ enough to plan a wedding - how chill do they sound?!

Photographing a Military Honours Burial at the USAFA, Colorado | Grace Elizabeth, Colchester, Essex Alternative Wedding and Lifestyle Photographer

A few weeks ago, I flew to the USA to photograph something both incredibly important and incredibly difficult. It was the kind of opportunity I was initially unsure about how to respond to because it was one that was so important, but one that I am so glad I had the courage to say yes to, because it was something I now consider a highlight in my career…

Anne and Charlie's Wedding Previews | Intimate Wedding at All Saint's Church, Maldon | Grace Elizabeth, Colchester, Essex Alternative Wedding and Lifestyle Photographer

Anne and Charlie’s wedding yesterday was just so wonderful, even if it was probably the most blustery wedding I have ever photographed!

I first met Anne and Charlie at John and Amy’s wedding at Tunnels Beaches last September, where they were guests. I actually remember them pulling me aside to ask if I would take a photograph of them together - I didn’t expect an email to land in my inbox from them just two months later asking me if I would photograph their wedding, what an honour!

Behind the Scenes | We Only Need 15 Minutes For Your Wedding Portraits - Yes Really! | Grace Elizabeth, Colchester, Essex Alternative Wedding and Lifestyle Photographer

Regularly, when I explain that I will need a little time in your day to get those beautiful couple photos you see across my website and my instagram, I often hear ‘Oh you won’t take us away for hours will you?’ or ‘We aren’t that fussed about couple photos… We were at a wedding recently where the couple disappeared with the videographer and photographer for two hours! We don’t want that.’ Therefore, most couples are actually super cautious about having any couple photos together at all, which makes me super sad because I LOVE them… so let me tell you something!

Colourful Intimate NYE Registry Office Elopement at Colchester Town Hall | Kim and David | Grace Elizabeth, Colchester, Essex Alternative Wedding Photographer

Just a month before the two planned to wed, an email popped into my inbox from the loveliest couple, David and Kim. The couple had been together for over thirty years and were finally planning to tie the knot in a super intimate ceremony, with just Kim’s daughter and her mum present, although there was going to be a big party a few months down the line with all of their friends who would then be aware of their wedding!

Noted in their email as ‘what will probably be the speediest wedding ever’ although quite correct, as they were in and out of the ceremony within 20 minutes, it was such a wonderful way to end 2018 on a high and definitely a lovely thing to witness.

What an absolute year 2018 was. When bride Rhia first got in contact with me back in the summer, I knew from her messages that right away we would get along, so it wasn’t long before we organised meeting up to chat about their plans. It was the middle of summer, with the blazing hot heatwave, and I think I must have spent about three hours at their home… No wonder that now we are such good friends! Funny how you never know where one facebook message might lead six months down the line!
